Broodje Haring, Cheese, Apple slices, Pickle, Strawberries and Cream, Lemon Chia Sparkling Water

Ingredients

Broodje Haring

  • 8 oz Salt-cured herring fillets fully cooked
  • 2 Whole wheat rolls
  • 2 tsp Mayonnaise
  • 1 TBSP Dijon mustard
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup Onion minced
  • 2 Pickles sliced into thin rounds or chopped
  • 2 TBSP Fresh parsley chopped
  • 2 TBSP Fresh chives chopped

Sides

  • 1 oz Your choice of block cheese sliced
  • 1 Apple sliced
  • 2 Pickle spears

Strawberries and Cream

  • 1 cup Strawberries sliced
  • 1/4 cup Whipped cream

Lemon Chia Sparkling Water

  • 4 cups Sparkling water
  • 1 Lemon sliced
  • 2 tsp Chia seeds

Instructions

  • Prep all ingredients per the instructions above.
  • Rinse the salt-cured herring fillets under cold water to remove excess salt, then pat dry with a paper towel.
  • Slice the rolls lengthwise and lightly toast until just warm and slightly crisp.
  • In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise and Dijon mustard. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  • Spread the mayonnaise–mustard mixture evenly inside the rolls.
  • Layer with onion, sliced pickles, parsley, chives, and herring filets into the rolls.
  • Add the lemon slices and chia seeds to the sparkling water and gently stir. Add ice cubes as desired.
  • Add the strawberries to a bowl and top with whipped cream.
  • Serve the broodje haring with cheese slices, sliced apple, pickle spears, strawberries and cream, and lemon chia sparkling water.
